Gov. Beshear Presents Keys to New Homes for Tornado Survivors

Mayfield, KY – December 9, 2023

In a heartfelt ceremony marking the two-year anniversary of the devastating tornadoes in Western Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear played a key role in delivering hope and a fresh start to families in Mayfield.

Joined by local officials and nonprofit leaders, Governor Beshear handed over the keys to 10 new homes in Mayfield and Dawson Springs. The Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, contributing million, made a significant impact by providing $100,000 per home.

The Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund has committed over . 6 million to construct or repair 300 homes, with 154 projects already completed, under construction, or approved to start construction.

Governor Beshear, in collaboration with local leaders from The Hope Initiative, presented the keys to five new homes dedicated to tornado survivors in Mayfield. As a part of the city’s Walk of Remembrance, the occasion paid tribute to the 81 Kentuckians who lost their lives in the storms, 24 of whom were from Graves County.

Over 800 million in state and federal funding for western Kentucky’s recovery and reconstruction operations has been made possible in large part by the Beshear administration.

These new homes serve as a sign of resiliency and community solidarity in addition to providing stability and shelter for people impacted by the disasters. For the residents of western Kentucky, Governor Beshear’s dedication to the recovery effort has been essential in helping lives be rebuilt and hope restored.

New homes are dedicated as a symbol of hope and solidarity in the face of hardship, helping the community to rebuild. The significant contribution from the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund highlights the value of teamwork in assisting families in overcoming the difficulties brought on by natural catastrophes.
